Essential Nutrients - What Are Vitamins?

Vitamins have become a very important part of everyone's diet. The daily requirements of LLAP Health vitamins can not be met without them and the food available today is not as varied as it used to be. In this fast paced, always on the go society, more people are choosing to eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals rather than the unhealthy, fatty foods available before. It is for this reason that multivitamins are becoming very popular with all walks of life, whether you're a student athlete or a working professional.

There are three major groups of vitamins and one important group of minerals that our bodies need in abundance. These vitamins are the fat soluble vitamins, which include vitamin a vitamin d and vitamin e, as well as the water soluble vitamins such as vitamin k, LLAPHealth vitamin c and vitamin h. Each vitamin and mineral is vital to the human body, but the combination of the vitamins and minerals your body requires in adequate quantities is what will make you healthy. An ideal vitamin consists of a combination of at least five other vitamins and eight minerals to meet the dietary requirements of the body in adequate quantities.

Some vitamins and minerals are fat soluble, while others are water soluble. The fat soluble vitamins include vitamin a vitamin d, phosphorus and potassium, while the water-soluble vitamins include sodium, magnesium, calcium and bromine. Your body needs all of these essential nutrients in very fine quantities to maintain the health of all of your organs and systems, as well as your central nervous system, which helps to control all bodily functions. Deficiencies of vitamins and minerals can result in weak immune system, chronic disease, weak mental ability and even cancer.
